Do You Have Enough Insurance?

Recently we received a phone call from a client who needed out services.  He was looking update his homeowners insurance and wanted to be sure he had enough coverage should a flood or other disaster hit their home.

 

This family is a large collector of many things.  Some of these collections include coins, artwork, designer shoes and bags.

Home Flooding:

Many homes become flooded not because they are located near a body of water but because of every day items in the home. These items are washing machines, toilets, kitchen and bath sinks and water heaters. When they leak, these items can cause a tremendous amount of damage especially if the leaking occurs when you are not at home.

According to http://www.eere.energy.gov, 30 - 70% of all water heaters that are 9-14 years old will fail. This means anything from a leak to full out flood. What they are suggesting is to replace your water heater every 10 years.

Keeping Records

Keeping good household records is vital. Because bad things happen to good people, you do want to be sure your have the proper paperwork for proof of ownership should fire, flood or a burglary happen to you.

A good investment is a household fireproof box. You can also get yourself a safe deposit box at your local financial establishment.
